Coronavirus Death Toll Tops 3,300 as Cases Rise to 95,000
Italy remains the hardest-hit European country, while South Korea reports the most detected case of COVID-19 outside of China.

The coronavirus has infected more than 95,000 people and claimed roughly 3,300 lives after Europe reported large spikes in cases over the past day.
Italy remains the hardest-hit European country, with 148 deaths as of Thursday. The government has shut down schools across the country until at least March 15.
Germany reported more than 100 new cases, raising its total to nearly 350. Iceland reported a rise from 10 cases to at least 26. Poland and Bosnia announced their first cases of the virus. Officials in Switzerland confirmed the country's first death from the virus. Spain reported its second coronavirus death.
Outside of Europe, Iran has 107 deaths and more than 3,500 cases. The country's health minister announced the launch of a national mobilization plan to fight the outbreak, which includes disinfecting public places and partolling entries to towns and cities.
South Korea remains the country with the most detected cases outside of China, with roughly 6,000 cases. It has reported 37 deaths.
India is reporting nearly 30 cases, sparking fears that the country's health systems might be ill-equipped to handle such an outbreak.
In the U.S., officials report more than 120 cases and 11 deaths. California confirmed its first coronavirus death on Wednesday from a person recently disembarked from cruise. The governor declared a state of emergency.
