Former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has expanded his lead over President Donald Trump in North Carolina.

A survey published Thursday from Public Policy Polling shows Biden with a 4-point lead over Trump, with 49% support compared to 45%. A similar poll in April showed the candidates nearly tied, with the former vice president at 48% and the president at 47%.

Among North Carolina voters, the president garners a 45% approval rating, with 50% of voters in the state disapproving of the job Trump is doing in office. Trump won the state in 2016 against then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton by more than 3.5 points.

The last time a Democrat won in North Carolina in a presidential election was when President Barack Obama took the state in 2008.

The poll found that Trump has a higher approval rating among men compared to women, 52% and 40% respectively. On the contrary, more female voters, 55%, than male voters, 42%, say they would vote for Biden. Trump wins men over women, 52% to 40% respectively.

The survey also found that Democrat Cal Cunningham has a slight advantage over Republican Sen. Thom Tillis in North Carolina's Senate race. Forty-three percent of voters say they would vote for Cunningham compared to 41% for Tillis.

Additionally, a majority of people, 55%, say they approve of the way Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper is handling the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, half of North Carolina voters would cast their ballot for Cooper over his Republican opponent Dan Forest, who earns just 39% support.
