Residents around the world ranked their cities’ food, music, affordability and more.
The World’s Best Cities
The United Kingdom’s Manchester is the most hungover city in the world, Berliners are most likely to be vegan and Hong Kong residents eat out more often than anywhere else. These are all findings from the Time Out 2019 Index, used to determine the best cities in the world.
Time Out Group, a global media and entertainment company, recently released the index, which is based on a survey of more than 30,000 people in 48 cities, in addition to input from local editors and experts.
The survey explored the following categories: food, drink, culture, music, nightlife, sociability, happiness, progress, attractiveness and “other qualities,” such as affordability and convenience.
Here are the top 10 cities in the world, according to Time Out:
10. Tokyo
More people want to visit Tokyo than any other city in the world, according to the Time Out 2019 Index. Residents are passionate about Tokyo’s food scene, which is home to more than 200 Michelin-starred restaurants, far more than any other city.
9. Paris
Time Out’s survey found that Parisians are the most likely to go out on weeknights, and they are extremely proud of their city’s art scene.
8. Glasgow, Scotland
Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, ranked No. 1 for friendliness and affordability. Residents also seem to think Glasgow is on the upswing – 55 percent of respondents said the city is changing for the better.
7. Berlin
Berlin’s culture and live music scenes score highly in Time Out’s 2019 Index. According to the report, Berlin’s local government recently pledged more than $1 million to soundproof the city’s nightclubs, an investment demonstrating the clubs’ importance to the area.
