NRA Ad: Hillary Clinton Could Get Rid of Your Guns
'Don't let Hillary leave you protected with nothing but a phone,' a voice says.
A new advertisement from the National Rifle Association asserts that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will take away people's right to self-defense via firearm.
The ad, which runs for 30 seconds, features a woman in bed hearing the sound of breaking glass in her house and leaping up to call 911.
“She’ll call 911," a narrator says. "Average response time: 11 minutes. Too late.”
The woman reaches for a safe and inputs the code to get out a handgun, but then the safe and the gun disappear.
“She keeps a firearm in this safe for protection. But Hillary Clinton could take away her right to self-defense,” the narrator explains. “And with Supreme Court justices, Hillary can.”
“Don’t let Hillary leave you protected with nothing but a phone,” the narrator concludes as police investigate her home, which is now cordoned off.
The ad was scheduled to air on national cable and on regional broadcast in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and Nevada, The Washington Times reports.
The $5 million buy is the largest one this cycle for the NRA, which was reportedly prepared to spend more than $15 million on ads in various battleground states to defeat Clinton.
Though the ad does not mention Clinton's rival, Donald Trump, the NRA endorsed Trump in May, and the spot dovetails with the GOP nominee's charge that Clinton wants to gut the Second Amendment.
“The gun lobby is coming to Donald Trump’s defense and spending millions of dollars to spread lies about Hillary Clinton because they know Trump will always do their bidding,” Clinton spokesman Andrew Bates said in August.
On Friday, Trump sparked criticism by saying "[Clinton's] bodyguards should drop all weapons" and that once they disarm, "let's see what happens to her." The remarks followed Trump's "Second Amendment people" comments last month, which some said amounted to a suggestion of violence against Clinton.
"Take their guns away, she doesn't want guns," Trump said Friday. "Take their — and let's see what happens to her. Take their guns away. OK, it would be very dangerous."
In reality, Clinton is not for repealing the Second Amendment and supports several gun violence prevention measures, including background checks.
