Jobs With Staying Power
. . .and those with far less promise
Sure, it's been pretty much of a jobless recovery. But that doesn't mean no jobs have been created. Fields such as education, entertainment, and healthcare still offer opportunity. And no one in search of a stable job with good pay and benefits should overlook the chance to work for Uncle Sam or state and local governments. The new threats post-9/11 have spawned a slew of jobs in homeland security, of course, but it isn't all about screening carry-ons for hunting knives at the local airport. Corporations, too, are worried about security--both the physical kind and that of their computer networks. It's impossible to predict where the next jobs will be created--20 years ago, did anyone really think there'd be millions of jobs building, selling, fixing, updating, and even disposing of PCs? But for now, these are some sectors and jobs with the brightest outlooks.
