Background: Katy Marquardt, who joined U.S.News & World Report in November 2007, covers business, investing, and personal finance for the Money & Business section and also writes the New Money personal financial blog, which aims to help novice investors in their 20s and 30s cut through the jargon-filled world of finance. Prior to her promotion to senior editor in January 2009, Katy was an associate editor in the business section. Before joining U.S. News, Marquardt spent five years at Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine, where she wrote about mutual funds, stocks, investing strategies, personal finance trends, and college finance. In 2002, she worked for the Chronicle of Philanthropy. She wrote for the Austin American-Statesman from 1999 to 2000. Marquardt received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas-Austin in 2000.
