The Pack Rats Upon Capitol Hill
Here's one reason why so many file cabinets still fill Senate offices. As Illinois Sen. Richard Durbin reveals, the Senate never throws anything away. He tells of filing papers with the Senate paymaster following his 1996 election. "You worked here before," Durbin recalls the payroll clerk telling him. "I was an intern here in 1966," Durbin agreed. "Yes, we kept your file," said the clerk, who pulled it out to make the new payroll notations.

An Aye for Student Loan Forgiveness
Students carrying five-figure college loans have a new ally: the U.S. Supreme Court. Judges have urged Congress to provide loan forgiveness for students who go into government service, like court clerks.

The Prez's Big Texas College Tour
Insiders say President Bush will be asking Texas colleges this summer for proposals to build his presidential library and museum. Two schools are expected to compete: Southern Methodist University in Dallas and Waco's Baylor University. It'll be a big task: Bush's collection of documents could be the largest ever.

No Spitting at Camp David, Please
The Navy is updating the telecommunications network at the president's sprawling Camp David mountain retreat in Maryland, and contractors are being put on a short leash. But not just because of the obvious security concerns. It seems the Navy wants only clean and courteous contractors to do the work in 30 different buildings (who knew there were so many?), not including the president's Aspen Lodge. For example, nobody can park on the grass. And please, please, no junk trucks that drip oil on the driveways. "All vehicles and equipment found to have fluid leaks will be denied access," says the Navy. Finally: No smoking and no smokeless tobacco or chaw. It makes chewers spit.
