Take a break
The nation's headhunters have a little advice for outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell: Take a break. A poll for the Association of Executive Search Consultants of 361 senior executives finds that 39 percent believe Powell should take time off and write a book, and 34 percent believe he should become a CEO of some organization or corporation. Powell's last day is likely to be Jan. 20, when Condi Rice takes over. Here are the poll results:

  • Run for office – 27%
  • Become CEO of a nongovernment organization – 15%
  • Become CEO of a global corporation – 19%
  • Take time off and write a book – 39%

Inaugural stars
Add actor Denzel Washington to the list of major stars in Washington for the 55th presidential inaugural. Our tipster saw him this week in the giftshop of a hotel near the White House. He's just one of the small group of others–Dennis Hopper, Gary Busey, Joe Piscopo, Mario Van Peebles–attending the official and unofficial parties this week. In fact, the list is so small that many in the entertainment media have been heard complaining that the Republicans are drawing a "Hollywood B-list." Republican officials, however, say that they are fine with that. "We're not trying to copy the star power of the Democrats," said one. While the numbers of movie stars may be low, the GOP parties are attracting big musical acts. That's a long list and includes Toots and the Maytals, 3 Doors Down, Lyle Lovett, ZZ Top, Ted Nugent, Asleep at the Wheel, Macy Gray, Clay Walker, Pat Green, Hillary Duff, and Fuel.

Clinton 101: Research Bubba online
Six weeks after Bill Clinton opened his library and museum and turned the keys over to the federal government, the agency that runs it has cleared a path for researchers to click their way through the former president's papers. Researchers can now go to the official National Archive Records Administration site and flip through the old Web pages of the Clinton administration. Many of the documents are not available yet, however, because the government requires that many be kept secret for several years. Users of the new website can also track new museum tours and education seminars.

From general to governor?
Chatter is getting louder in Arkansas that former NATO boss and Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark will run for guv in 2006. Associates say that his presidential run, as well as his friendship with the Clintons, is boosting his name recognition in the state. They also say that he's hooked on politics and still considers himself a potential future presidential candidate, reports our Suzi Parker. Since the election, he's stayed active, using his presidential E-mail list to reach out to supporters and future donors through his political action committee, WesPac, Securing America's Future.
