Minimum Wage Politics

Posted at 4:47 PM ET by Silla Brush

Democrats and progressives have been ecstatic about their statewide ballot campaigns to increase the minimum wage. They're up in six states–Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, and Ohio. Polls across the states show the ballot campaigns passing by upwards of 70 percent save for Colorado, where support dropped to 53 percent. But the progressive groups behind the effort–the Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), organized labor, Let Justice Roll, etc. – aren't slowing down. ACORN has 4,500 canvassers and volunteers in the field today working on minimum wage issues, and the AFL-CIO has 75,000 members, volunteers, leaders, and canvassers across the country today with the minimum wage as a key issue in their campaign.
