New poll finds challenger Casey leading Santorum by nine points

A new poll released today shows Democratic Senate candidate Bob Casey leading Sen. Rick Santorum by 9 points. According to the poll by Strategic Vision, 49 percent would vote for Casey, 40 percent would vote for Santorum, and 10 percent were undecided.

While the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee called attention to the poll as a positive sign, the 9 percentage point lead is a few points lower than previous polls. A survey taken in May by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research found Casey leading by 13 percentage points, 54 percent to 41 percent.

The Strategic Vision poll also found that 49 percent disapproved of Santorum's performance, while 46 approved his performance. One thing is clear: Pennsylvanians definitely don't want Santorum to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. Only 1 percent of those surveyed selected him as a nominee.
