Once a Republican Yankee redoubt--this, after all, is where the Bush family once made its home--Connecticut's Fourth District has in the past 50 years slowly evolved into a more liberal New York City suburb, home to mansions, corporate headquarters, and hedge funds. The glaring exception is Bridgeport, a tough industrial city among the nation's poorest. Median income in the district is among the nation's highest at $66,598, and 52 percent of voters in the last election chose Kerry; 53 percent chose Gore in 2000.
