Election 2004

11/3/04 9:00 AM EST
Bush Leads Popular Vote Tally By 3.6 Million

According to AP figures, with 98 percent of the national vote tallied, President George W. Bush led with 57,886,118 votes (51%) to Sen. John Kerry's 54,265,083 (48%). Independent Ralph Nader tallied 388,030 votes while Libertarian Michael Badnarik got 369,991votes. If these numbers are confirmed, Bush would have garnered the highest election total in US history, beating President Reagan's in 1984. It would also be the first time since 1988 that a winning presidential candidate has obtained a majority of the popular vote.
