The Latest From Late Night Comedians
Last night, Jay Leno and David Letterman trained their political humor on the Kerry campaign, John Edwards' low profile, and mostly on CBS over its admission that its Bush National Guard documents were forged.
"Last night, of course, the Emmy Awards last night. HBO got 32 Emmys, NBC took home 8, CBS News gave back 4."
"Let's see what's going on at CBS News. Or as what it stands for today, 'Can't Backup Story.'"
"Last night, opposite the Emmys, NBC showed 'Titanic.' You know, when I saw a ship going down, I just thought it was the Kerry campaign."
"When John Kerry saw the latest poll numbers, he called President Clinton again. Not for advice, just to make sure he still had his vote."
"John Kerry's going on 'Dr. Phil' next week. Dr. Phil? I mean, how bad is the campaign going that he needs grief counseling now?"
"And what happened to John Edwards? Anybody seen Edwards? Where is he? You know, you're not supposed to go to your secret, undisclosed location until you become vice president."
John Kerry "said, by one count, the President offered 23 different rationales for this war. And of course, Kerry's furious. He's got twice as many as that."
"CBS is now saying that they were misled and they are victims of a colossal hoax. . . . Incidentally that's the same thing they said after hiring me."
