Aides Say Bush Considering Push For A Flat Tax
During his convention speech, President Bush announced a push for the simplification of the tax code. Throughout the weekend, the President has been repeating his call for tax reform, which the Dallas Morning News calls "a guaranteed crowd pleaser, drawing hoots and hollers everywhere." Bush, however, has not offered any specifics on what his proposal for a "simpler, fairer" tax system might look like. According to yesterday's Washington Post, the President's aides "said he is considering pushing for a flat tax, which would set the same income-tax rate for most taxpayers, as a major priority if he were to win a second term."
