Fox News Ratings Tops Networks For GOP Convention
For the first time in prime time coverage of a major news event, Fox News drew higher ratings than any of its network or cable competitors. The New York Times reports it was a "shift in the usual pecking order of television news," but Fox executives "dismissed the idea that Fox was merely preaching to the converted as inaccurate and a sour-grapes excuse for the ratings on Tuesday." The Washington Times reported Fox's "prime-time audience "averaged more than 4 million viewers Tuesday night, with viewership peaking during first lady Laura Bush's heart-to-heart talk with the nation, bringing the audience up to 5.2 million. Robust speechifying by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger attracted 5.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen numbers released yesterday."
