Musicians' Bid To Oust Bush Indicates Extent Of Grassroots Competition
ABC World News Tonight reported last night on "an unusual event in the world of politics. Rock and roll royalty announced concerts to mobilize support for Senator Kerry. President Bush is also pulling out all the stops in the battle for votes." ABC (Tapper) added, "John Kerry's gifts to the music world may be questionable. But the music world's gifts to John Kerry could prove golden. The concert tour of 28 cities announced today features Bruce Springsteen, among others. Those cities are strategically targeted almost entirely in key battleground states." Springsteen told ABC's Ted Koppel, "Its intent is to mobilize progressive voters and get them to the polls come election day." Writing in this morning's New York Times, Springsteen says, "I don't think John Kerry and John Edwards have all the answers. I do believe they are sincerely interested in asking the right questions and working their way toward honest solutions. They understand that we need an administration that places a priority on fairness, curiosity, openness, humility, concern for all America's citizens, courage and faith."
