Democrats See Environmental Issues As Secret Weapon
Democratic insiders at the Boston convention say John Kerry believes the environment will be a "sleeper" issue in the general-election campaign. "The other side is extremely vulnerable on it, given how they are locked in the grip of the fossil fuel companies," a senior Democrat told the US News Bulletin. Kerry's strategists say the environment will be a strong issue not only for core Democrats but also for independent voters, especially suburban women who are a key constituency for both Kerry and George W. Bush.
