Kerry Campaign Plans To "Go Dark" in August

The Kerry campaign said they will not spend much money on TV in August, moving instead to expand campaign travel by Sen. John Kerry and running mate Sen. John Edwards. "We're going dark," said campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill. The strategy is controversial in Democratic circles, but aides explained that it is the only way to have enough money to use after the GOP convention and during the weeks leading up to Election Day. Starting this weekend, Cahill said that Kerry and Edwards will hit the campaign trail and travel non-stop through August. The campaign plans to keep much of the money in reserve for TV ads in October, when they believe that undecided voters will finally make up their minds on who to back.
