Truckers: On the road again and again
At high noon in Missouri, 51-year-old trucker Bill DeFord is ready to saddle up. Experienced trucks like DeFord, who has been driving a rig for more than 25 years, are an increasing rarity on the nation's highways. Long hours and low pay have gotten so bad that the average nonunion trucking firm now has to replace the equivalent of its entire work force every year.
