The thermal protection system, the tiles from the underside of the shuttle, show signs of high temperature testing. The outline depicts the placement of a plate, which would act as a patch if any damage to the tiles occurred. During their mission, Discovery's crew will be testing several techniques for repairing damage to the shuttle while in flight.
