Morocco: A Kingdom at a Crossroads

As the Kingdom of Morocco attempts to move away from its authoritarian past, and espouse more modern and pro-Western ideals, it faces many challenges. Economic problems persist, and the nation's poor and unemployed have become susceptible to Islamic extremism. It remains to be seen if the country's young monarch, Mohamed VI, will be adept at balancing the needs of a secular society with the demands of traditional Islamic culture.
