Deep inside their pages, newspapers list the names of fallen soldiers almost every day. But the soldiers' return to these shores is shrouded in secrecy, and many are interred with just a few family members and friends as witness. Photographer Andrew Lichtenstein traveled across the nation to memorialize their sacrifice and to commemorate the cost of their courage. The politicians will continue to debate the wisdom or folly of the venture in Iraq. The families of those who gave their lives will need to seek no one's pardon should they choose to ignore the torrent of words.
