Members of the Prophets for Profit investment club in Columbus, Ohio, met in mid-July to discuss strategy while the stock market tried to recover from a steep, swift decline to 8019. The $282,000 nest egg these 20 women had built together lost 50 percent of its value during the decline. "We don't trust any companies anymore and don't believe anything that's being said," said cofounder Joan Folpe.
