By fall of 1972, all schools in Little Rock, Ark. were integrated. The Little Rock Nine paved the way for school integration across the country. These young students withstood hatred and violence to bring about much-needed change. During Little Rock Central High School's 40th anniversary of desegregation, Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., said, "There is no question in my mind that my life is more productive because of what you did. . . . Thank you for having the personal fortitude to endure so people like me could come behind you."
