1831-32
In September 1831, the Anti-Masonic Party held the first national convention in Baltimore, replacing the traditional caucus nominating process. A total of 116 delegates from 13 states attended the convention. In May 1832, also in Baltimore, representatives from 23 states gathered for the first Democratic convention and nominated Andrew Jackson.
