Following a flawless and uneventful countdown, the launch of Columbia's mission STS-107 was on time at 10:39 a.m EST, Jan. 16, 2003. The 16-day research mission included experiments that ranged from material sciences to life sciences. This was the 28th flight of orbiter Columbia and the 113th flight overall in NASA's space shuttle program.
