Hat-Toss Timing: Giuliani Keeps Pace With McCain

Sen. John McCain isn't the only likely presidential candidate looking to formally announce in the next month or so.

Associates of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani say he too is planning to announce his candidacy in the same time period. As with McCain, Giuliani officials have been debating when to officially join the race, with some aides suggesting that he could wait a while since he already has high name recognition and also because most supporters know he is running.

But others, as with McCain insiders, argue that there is no reason to delay the announcement since he is running. Also, it might help with fundraising to be an officially declared candidate. Giuliani advisers are suggesting that his declaration for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination could come around the time of his first major fundraiser, March 14, in New York City.
