12 things about Randy Graf

1. Randy Graf was born on Nov. 3, 1958, in Green Bay, Wis. He and his wife, Cathy, have been married for 25 years. They have one son and one grandson, and he describes his favorite hangout spot as "home."

2. He attended Ripon College in Wisconsin and graduated from the San Diego Golf Academy.

3. He is a former golf professional and was once the head at Desert Hills Golf Club in Green Valley and a member of the PGA. His first job was as a caddy.

4. He was elected to the Continental School District Governing Board in 1994. He served as the board's president in 1998.

5. He worked in the automobile business as a co-owner of Foothills Luxury Sedans before entering politics.

6. He was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 2001 to 2004.

7. He is on the Green Valley Salvation Army advisory council and lists "serving meals with the Green Valley Salvation Army at Christmas" as his last community service activity.

8. He is a past president and chief umpire of Copper Hills Little League. He once said his Little League experience would be useful as a freshman in the Arizona House of Representatives and that he can't "imagine there's another job where you can be called worse [names]."

9. He challenged Republican incumbent Jim Kolbe in the 2004 primary and lost with 43 percent of votes.

10. He supports and has received donations from the Minuteman Project, a civilian border patrol group. One of his campaign slogans is "Send a Minuteman to Congress."

11. His mother-in-law is from Panama.

12. He has said if a movie were made of his life, it would be titled "Mr. Optimistic."
