McClellan on the way out?

Speculation is growing inside the administration and among outside Bush advisers that Press Secretary Scott McClellan may be among the next to step down as the White House moves to present a more aggressive stance under new White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten.

While some insiders say that the rumors are false and that McClellan plans to remain, others suggest that what's going on is a subtle nudge by West Wing officials to indicate that it might be time for the long-time press secretary and Bush family friend to move on.

Those close to the situation–one of many in the mix of potential changes Bolten is said to be considering in a shake-up–said potential replacements are already being suggested for the top spokesman's slot. Among them are former Treasury spokesman Rob Nichols and former Deputy White House Press Secretary Trent Duffy.
