Looking to '08, Frist reshuffles team

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, who is focusing more on his 2008 presidential bid as his career in the Senate ends this year, has reorganized his communications operation to acknowledge the more aggressive style instituted by Amy Call, his deputy communications director.

Call has been elevated to the top PR job, replacing Bob Stevenson, Frist's longtime communications adviser; Stevenson has been named a senior counselor.

Insiders said that the move was aimed at giving Call the title and position she deserves for her monthlong effort to boost Frist's communications operation as he steps up his presidential campaign. Sources said that she has played a more important role recently as Frist tries to distance himself from recent public flubs.

"Call has been establishing a working communications structure for several months and is now officially running the communications operation, and the difference externally is certainly visible," said a Frist associate.
