National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Hurricanes
NOAA's comprehensive hurricane site provides everything you need to know (or would want to know) about hurricanes, including how and why hurricanes and other severe storms develop, watches, warnings and forecasts, preparedness guides and safety tips, historical hurricane photos and data, and much more.

One of the functions of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration's uniformed corps is to chase storms. It recently published above-the-cloud photographs of Hurricane Katrina as it barreled toward the Gulf Coast.
National Hurricane Center/Tropical Prediction Center
Provided by the National Hurricane Center, an office of NOAA's National Weather Service and located in Miami, this site provides access to up-to-the-minute tropical weather forecasting as well as climatological data on historical hurricanes. Also of note are research sources such as an explanation of the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale and the one-of-a-kind Deadliest, Costliest, and Most Intense United States Tropical Cyclones (and Other Frequently Requested Hurricane Facts), available by decade and by state, as well as general fact sheets, glossaries, and models.
