Thoughts about the war

U.S. News readers, especially those with loved ones deployed in the Persian Gulf region, are closely monitoring our Web exclusives and print magazine and sharing their thoughts about the war. In this sampling of the feedback we've received, we have withheld some last names as a security precaution.

Sighs of relief and a good night's sleep

Thank you for the coverage of the 101st Airborne Division ["Ground Attack Convoy Five," Web exclusive, March 25]. My brother-in-law is in this division, and it is very comforting to me to hear news about the 101st. You have given us some great coverage so that we can understand what this fine group of men and women is doing to establish freedom for the Iraqis and also continue to fight for ours.

"News and Rumors" [Web exclusive, March 27] is the first I've heard anything about my husband and his guys. Our baby was 4 days old when my husband was deployed. Your articles are very helpful and keep us updated. Thank you.

Thanks for your great article, "Taking Charge" [Web exclusive, March 31], about how the Marines easily took the towns of Hajif, Afak, and Al Budayr. I think we will get a more positive response in the future from people in other towns. Most of them might just be scared and confused right now. When they see we are there to help them, things will be better. We needed this bright spot among all the bad news.

My son is with one of the units your reporter is following. Your reporter helped a couple of our guys to get word out that they were all still alive and OK, and on the move. I just want to say thank you. At least we were able to get one night's rest.
