On to the polls

During the presidential debate, President Bush appeared to try to persuade voters that his leadership as Commander-in-Chief is one of the primary reasons why he should be reelected. Let's suppose that the American people decide to give Bush the benefit of the doubt. We would have to believe that Bush was forthright and honest that a preemptive war against Iraq was necessary. This was in order to remove a dictator who was supposedly in possession of weapons of mass destruction and was a threat to our national security. However, the President failed to have a cohesive post-war plan for Iraq. Bush deliberately ignored professional military advice, including General Shinseki who publicly stated that it would take 400,000 troops to secure and stabilize Iraq. The lack of military personnel led to wide spread looting and destruction of Iraq's infrastructure and most disturbing of all, an insurrection by the Iraqi people and insecure borders so that foreign terrorists entered Iraq and engaged in guerilla warfare against our troops. As a result, more than a thousand U.S. soldiers have been killed and thousands more seriously wounded. This alone should prevent President Bush from a second term as out Commander in Chief.
