Mission
School mission Founded in 1960, Houston Baptist University, a Texas Baptist institution, is a coeducational, independent university with a growing national reputation for offering academic excellence through more than 40 undergraduate and 10 graduate programs. Classes are taught by professors with strong academic credentials and an enthusiasm for teaching that extends beyond the classroom. Small classes (our student to faculty ratio is 15:1) mean that students get the attention they need. HBU is founded on Christian principles, and offers a supportive environment for all students, regardless of faith or religious affiliation. For the fourth consecutive year, HBU has been ranked in the top tier among the "Best Universities" offering master's degrees in the Western region by U.S. News & World Report in its America's Best Colleges for 2008 edition.
