| School mission | Linfield College is a private, independent institution, nationally recognized for its strong teaching faculty, outstanding academic programs and distinctive international emphasis. Linfield has a challenging and exciting academic program that features a liberal arts core, professional opportunities, and an atmosphere in which there is genuine concern for individuals and their progress. We offer 45 majors and three undergraduate degrees: bachelor of arts, bachelor of science and bachelor of science in nursing. Our campus in Portland, established in 1982, offers the nursing major as well as a major in health sciences. Our Division of Continuing Education, established in 1975, offers a web-based baccalaureate program for working adults. Linfield is one of the oldest colleges on the West Coast, chartered in 1858 and tracing its roots to an institution established in 1849. Reflecting our international interests, we added a Japanese major in 2004, an Intercultural Communication major in 2005, and a European Studies - German major in 2006. In the summer of 2003, we opened our new Library as well as our new Theatre and Communication Arts building. In the fall of 2006, we opened Elkington and Terrell Halls (2 new residence halls) and the new Vivian A. Bull Music Center. |
