With a solid academic reputation and distinguished faculty who are accessible to students, Millsaps College is considered an ideally-sized living-learning environment where students develop into mature citizens with the intellectual capabilities, ethical principles, and sense of responsibility needed for leadership in all sectors of society. Millsaps College offers a classroom experience that students have described as interactive--rather than just listen to a lecture, students are challenged to debate, discuss and ask questions. Millsaps' programs are designed to cultivate critical-thinking and problem-solving skills; creativity, sensitivity, and tolerance; the ability to inform and challenge others; and an appreciation for humanity and the universe. In addition, Millsaps offers a wide range of opportunities for professional research, internships, study abroad, and community service. Since 1890, Millsaps has been committed to freedom of inquiry and expression in the classroom and on the campus. Its long-standing tradition of educating students in the arts and sciences was rewarded during the 20th century as it earned the privilege of establishing a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and also being the first college in the state to earn this affiliation. Millsaps College is recognized for its strengths in liberal arts and business. It is one of the few liberal arts colleges in the U. S. to hold both a Phi Beta Kappa chapter and accreditation at both the graduate and undergraduate level by AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). Through its Else School of Management, Millsaps offers a five-year MBA to its business undergraduates and also provides a strongly supportive environment for its arts and sciences undergraduates to obtain masters degrees in business. Millsaps also understands the need for practical support of its students in their preparation for life-long vocations. The Career Center offers strong counseling and placement services, while the Faith and Work program encourages students to explore careers that engage and inspire them through special service opportunities and student groups, a Meaning of work course, and internships, fellowships and other special programs.
