| School mission | Southeast Missouri State University is a comprehensive university with approximately 10,600 students and more than 200 areas of study. Southeast is located halfway between St. Louis and Memphis. Students study in Liberal Arts, Health Professions, Education, Business, Science, Mathematics and Polytechnic Studies. Modern facilities feature cutting-edge classroom technology and are a hallmark of Southeast allowing for prestigious national and international program accreditations. Examples include the River Campus, home to the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts, Dempster Hall, home to the Harrison College of Business, and the Seabaugh Building, a modern facility featuring state-of-the-art facilities for polytechnic studies. Southeast classes are typically small in size with 25-35 students in more than 90% of all courses taught. Full-time faculty with Ph.D.s teach most classes and involve students in hands-on experiences, research projects and real-life situations. Southeast offers a unique approach to career development. Through the innovative Career Linkages program, all Southeast students can work with a career advisor as well as an academic advisor beginning in the first year of college. A series of career proficiency checks are imbedded into the Southeast curriculum to prepare students for a successful career search at the time of graduation. Southeast has modern residence halls, a new residence hall opening in 2009, two student recreation centers, a new student aquatic center and more than 150 student organizations and clubs.
