| Mission | |
| School mission | Auburn University remains true to its three-part research, outreach and instruction mission and land-grant heritage. In that tradition, AU is primarily defined by its more than 24,000 students and 200,000 graduates, known as the "Auburn Family". Students choose from 230 undergraduate, graduate and professional programs. Graduates include six NASA astronauts, the head of the Kennedy Space Center, the nation's first and only class of wireless engineers, dozens of CEOs, world-famous architects including AIA gold medal winner "Sambo" Mockbee, and several authors and award-winning journalists. AU emphasizes international education, is at the forefront of engineering, transportation technology and veterinary medicine; achieves global impact through modern agricultural, extension and forestry/wildlife programs; and fulfills critical research and national shortages through pharmaceutical sciences, mathematics, education, nursing and human sciences offerings. As a public university, AU provides a $4.85 billion economic contribution to the state of Alabama, including $1.7 billion impact on the economy, a 7 to 1 return on the state's appropriation to AU, and a $3.15 billion impact in human capital. |
