Ins & Outs: Arlington National Cemetery
Arlington National Cemetery opens to the public at 8 a.m. every day of the year. From October 1 to March 31, the closing time is 5 p.m. From April 1 to September 30, the hours are extended to 7 p.m.
Visitor parking costs $1.25 an hour for the first three hours and $2 for every hour after that. The Arlington National Cemetery Metro stop (yellow and blue line) is a short walk from the cemetery gates.
The Tomb of the Unknowns, where the remains of three soldiers from World War I, World War II, and Korea are buried, is guarded by members of the 3rd U.S. Infantry, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For the six months between October 1 and March 31, the sentinel changes every hour on the hour. From April 1 to September 30, the precise, white-glove changing-of-the-guard ceremony occurs both on the hour and the half-hour.
