Digital photography is still a learning experience for most people, even the pros. But plenty of websites offer great advice. Here are some of them:

Photo.net: One of the best places on the Net to explore user experiences with cameras and learn how to shoot one well. It includes free articles and tutorials on a wide variety of subjects, from taking portraiture to shooting interiors, architecture, and sports. And it allows users to post photos and gain feedback from others.

Digital Photography Review: Offers in-depth review of cameras. An oft-cited resource for professional photographers.

Rob Galbraith Online: A great site covering digital cameras, lenses, software, and news, geared toward the professional photographer.

SLRgear: A site that tests lenses from major manufacturers, such as Canon and Nikon.

Lightstalkers: A community of mainly pro and semi-pro photographers. A great place to search for used gear, find upcoming events, obtain tips, or see what photographers are talking about.

Luminous Landscape: With a bent toward landscape photography, the site offers a wealth of handy tutorials and product reviews, particularly in the area of post-processing and digital printing.

Fredmiranda.com: A site that began as a go-to source for nifty Photoshop actions, it now has weekly photo "assignments," provides reviews of digital cameras and lenses, and offers digital darkroom techniques and photographer essays.

Manufacturers' sites, such as compact flash maker Lexar's, have gotten quite good. They often offer professional tutorials and tips on subjects from taking macro photography to shooting a hockey game or dealing with the elements in places like the Congo.
