U.S. News asked seven top photographers to choose the compact digital camera they like best.
Agency: Zuma Press
Notable award: Nominee to the Eddie Adams Workshop
Favorite compact camera: Leica Digilux 2
"The coolest point-and-shoot I used was the Leica Digilux 2. I liked how robust it is, the focal length selection and, of course, the images. I put it through some difficult paces, lots of banging around, tons of dust. It kept on ticking, not one down day for repair. The only thing I didn't like about it was the image buffer (just three images), lack of a high ISO (a low of ISO 64 and high of ISO 800 would've been great), lack of manual focus confirmation (a green dot pops up in autofocus), and no way to hyperfocus. It's still a great camera. My brother and his wife are borrowing it for their European vacation this month."
