4. More virtual meetings. Web conferencing and videoconferencing are improving in quality, and they're easier to set up. At the same time, late adopters are getting more comfortable with the idea of virtual meetings.

How to get ahead: If you're a manager who traditionally has had people travel by car or plane for meetings or training sessions, consider trying out a state-of-the-art Web-conferencing service such as WebEx (www.webex.com). Hosts of Web conferences or "webinars" tend to underprepare, perhaps because they feel the technology will help the presentation succeed. Prepare as thoroughly as for an in-person meeting.
