In conjunction with U.S.News, the Levin Institute at the State University of New York has organized a group of academics and businesspeople with decades of experience in China to discuss the issues raised in our stories. Panel participants include:
- Dr. Xiaobo LU, director of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Columbia University. He is a specialist in the political economy of post-socialist transition, political corruption, and Chinese politics.
- Professor XUE Lan, from the School of Public Policy at Tsinghua University.
- Dr. William A. Fischer, professor, International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland and former dean of the China Europe International Business School.
- Mr. Michael Komesaroff, president of Urandaline Investments, an Australian company specialising in China's capital intensive industries such as electric power, mining, metals and petrochemicals.
- Dr. Denis Fred Simon, provost, Levin Graduate Institute, SUNY, and former general manager of Andersen Consulting in Beijing and former president of Monitor Group China. Dr. Simon has been a regular visitor to China since 1981 and is an expert on foreign investment and technology development in China.
- Jon Sigurdson is professor and director of the East Asia Science & Technology and Culture Program at the European Institute of Japanese Studies, Stockholm School of Economics. His earlier positions include being director of the Research Policy Institute (1978-1996) at Lund University.
- The moderator will be Garrick Utley, president of the Levin Institute. Utley spent 40 years as a leading broadcast journalist for ABC, NBC, and CNN, reporting from more than 75 countries.
The Levin Institue is a new, independent graduate institute within the State University of New York (SUNY). Levin integrates management skills with international relations to develop managers who can work successfully across borders and cultures in the private, public, and non-profit sectors.
