Let's see Kansas, more central to entire country and especially the livestock population, near smaller urban centers where biomedical research is being built up, or New York island, very far from most of the animals (and thus the source of samples) in the country but near the largest population center and outdated and limited by it's island location. Common sense would say Kansas, but never let common sense enter into politics!

The remote location of Plum Island makes it a safer site in my opinion, I own livestock and operate a dairy and creamery. If I was living in Kansas with the idea of the facility moving there I would be outraged and up in arms to keep it where it is.

Money always talks but this is such a serious threat to the US livestock industry in the event of an accident and release of some horrific disease right into the middle of the country...... keep it on the island and hope the wind always blows to the east.
