The Benefits of Taking Time Off

I agree with this article. In my opinion I think that vacation is something that we need to take it into serious consideration according to the fact that the mind and the body need to rest. I find out that the more I have a time to take a rest the more I have courage to do everything with motivation and enthusiastism. Moreover, this kind of habit keeps me feel positive. Evidently, after the long hour of working around 7-9 hours a day, I normally feel exhausted with excessive workloads sometimes. When I get back home, I sit in front of the TV and listen to music, all of which really helps me to feel relax as well.

When I take a vacation I constantly think about all of the work I will need to do when I return, because there is nobody there to cover my workload! I get so worked up that it is less stressfull to go to work and attempt to catch up on my work. Vacation time is a benefit at my employer and salary employees must use their vacation hours for 9 holidays per year so that leaves us with 15-20 hours for a planned vacation and sick time.

Advancements in science and technology have brought tremendous developments in the world and human lives. The word science which derived from the Latin word “scientia” means knowledge.

I agree with this. Relaxation and vacations are important, even more when you are stressed out. But often, so hard to put together. Also, sometimes, you plan a vacation -- and it isn't relaxing. Things just to gell or come together to make a relaxing experience. I've always said that vacations are medically necessary, and I believe it. I always try to get some time away, but as I said, sometimes I come back more stressed than when I left.

While the idea of taking vacations as a means of stress reduction and increasing one’s sense of well-being sounds all well and good in theory, I would be interested to know the percentage of Americans who actually have the financial resources to engage in “relaxation” practices to the level which the Hostetler’s seem to enjoy. In a time when many Americans face financial ruin, simply providing three meals a day to one’s family seems a struggle for many. Additionally, I agree that the U.S. culture promotes an ideology where a strong work ethic (and therefore, taking less holidays) is not only valued but rewarded. Having lived in Europe for a number of years, the attitude towards “self-care” seemed much more positive compared to that of the United States. In my observations, this not only resulted in a stronger sense of well-being for the individual but actually improved his/her work performance. I would think for many the practices involved in “stress-reduction,” such as meditation, etc. are not something available or at the forefront of one’s mind in times of distress. One often needs support in identifying and incorporating alternative stress-reduction practices into his/her lifestyle. In an economic climate where mental health facilities are closing at an alarming rate, this form of institutional discrimination prevents those in lower socio-economic groups from having the opportunity to “restore their neural connections to a calm and peaceful state.” I wonder how the politicians would fare if their golf clubs and 5-star restaurants began to systematically disappear?

Mr "2BITS", the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Maybe he isn't motivated to work. I know, I don't know you. You posted for all to see "DADDY".

Not much benefit in my son taking 15 years off since he turned 18 he has never worked and never will. What a waste of a man--if you can call him that.
