Although not detracting at all from the work profiled here, there auto companies responsible for the child airbag deaths were never held to account. It was not airbags in general that killed kids but horizontally deploying airbags. NHTSA's own data showed this (no kids died in Hondas, for example).

The success of CChIPS can be credited to the great work of the diverse and talented CChIPS faculty, students and Industrial Advisory Board members. The faculty with whom Dr. Arbogast and I are fortunate to work span the disciplines of engineering, behavioral science, psychology, epidemiology, biostatistics, pediatrics, surgery, nursing, public health, communications, human factors and more. We are so grateful to NSF and our sponsors for not only allowing us to conduct this important research but also for ensuring that the depth and breadth of our science and engineering research is translated into practical solutions to save children's lives.
