Should Health Care Workers Be Required to Get Flu Vaccinations?

Most everybody dies of pneumonia/and or flu = no matter how many vaccinations they have for life. Fact! Stop all vaccinations, we don't want the side effects for life! We love our liver and kidneys, our bodies = we should have rights. Most Doctors have turned down all vaccinations. Fact, but they will tell their nurses that they have had them, so their nurses don't argue the concept.

Did you know that all 50 states allow exemptions under their mandatory vaccination laws for children entering school.

To find out more about the debate over mandatory vaccination for children please take a look at the following site. Vaccines ProCon.org - http://vaccines.procon.org

The site has a wealth of unbiased information surrounding the core question: Should vaccines be required for children? - http://vaccines.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=003600

And of course, my son will never again be injected with toxic substances: (vaccines). They're an abomination....look it up if you don't believe it. And try to avoid websites such as the cdc, or government agencies that get their money from the vaccine makers.

Amy, I am truly sorry about your sons hospitalization because of the flu. Please understand though, that vaccines are not a cure all. They also have a lot of toxic ingredients in them. Let's also respect other peoples basic human and God given rights to say 'yes' or 'no' to a vaccine. On a personal level, I believe the very vaccines that were supposed to 'protect' my son gave him an auto-immune disease: asthma. And he's prone to pnuemonia (every year), but he's received the pneumonia vaccine. Also, the way they make the vaccines in the lab is pretty scary. Get the facts--do some more research. You'll be shocked what you find.

With all the controversy surrounding vaccines, that alone should be enough for them not to mandate them. But the vaccine makers and our government do not care. They do care about money, though. And lastly, as a health care worker, God knows I do all I can to protect my patients from getting ill. Respiratory ettiquete, hand-washing, isolation when necessary, staying home from work when your sick. (yes, You should stay home from work if you have the flu or a fever). Nobody has a right to violate my rights in saying I have to get the flu vaccine or any vaccine for that matter.

You have been successfully programmed.

CDC has issued a new and lower figure for mathematically modelled deaths from influenza associated illness:

or

CDC: Annual Influenza Mortality Estimates Vary Substantially

Someone else has deconstructed that number 36,000 and shows that annual flu deaths, as reported in MWWR, are actually less than 1,000

Are US flu death figures more PR than science?

It's a shame about your child's influenza problems.

I will not visit your child's hospital room. And I will not get the influenza vaccination or the pertussis vaccination, either. I rarely have any patient contact. My health is fine and I practice good hygiene. Beyond that, I am entitled to make my own healthcare decisions, just like everyone else.

Novartis, one of the major vaccine manufacturers, is pushing hard to add adjuvants to influenza and other vaccines in the US. Adjuvants enhance the antigenicity of the vaccines, provoking a stronger response with a smaller dose, leading to larger profits for the vaccine makes and exposing recipients to injected squalene (an oil, which is natural but has been shown to stimulate autoimmune disease along with immunity to the flu - a particularly bad trade off because most people shake the flu in a week or two, but an autoimmune disease is lifelong and progressively debilitating). The adjuvant also contains gp120, a protein fragment found in HIV and associtated with rapid development of dementia in AIDS patients. This also might be substantially more debilitating than the flu.

The pertussis vaccine is the vaccine that most often causes encephalitis as a side effect.

Go on and get your vaccine. Be sure to ask for and read the package insert and understand that the vaccine makers have been absolved of all liability for any injury caused by their product. So be sure you also have really good insurance.

As the mother of an infant who was hospitalized not once, but twice, for complications to influenza before the vaccine became available for young children (my son is now 10) I applaud the efforts of hospitals who seek to mandate vaccines for health care workers. Any person working in the medical field who is unwilling to protect their patients by preventing a deadly disease is not suited to the profession in which they serve. "First, do no harm" should be taken to heart by health care workers who are well aware that influenza takes the lives of nearly 36,000 people in the U.S. each year. If there is a way to prevent harm caused by the spread of this illness it should be embraced by any person with knowledge about how medicines work and how successful vaccination is in saving lives. In my opinion, vaccines against pertussis/whooping cough (Tdap boosters for adults) should also be added to the list of required vaccinations for health care workers - particularly in light of the recent epidemic sweeping our nation. Children and the elderly, who are often the victims of flu and pertussis, often cannot speak for their own rights by the time they end up being hospitalized and it is up to those of us with knowledge about the life-saving benefits of vaccines to take steps to protect them whenever possible. At the very least families should have the right to refuse unvaccinated health care workers from entering their loved ones hospital rooms.
