I never knew weight had anything to do with weight. Interesting! So these means obesity affects someone's memory and reasoning-time to lose weight-mymamasafi.com

I'm guessing that Leslie of NC is younger then menopause age. I wish you luck with that when do you get there. Karma can be tricky. =)

this article i think is saying it affects your mental acuity, compared to yourself not compared to other people. so don't think this article is wrong just because some people who are fat are smarter than skinny people. (though i don't know if it's right... what i deduce from this is that being unhealthy may have more implications to our well-being than we understand. so the point is to eat and live healthy--which we already know)

I don't think women necessarily gain weight with aging or menopause, I suspect it is because they are not aware of the calories they eat compared to the activities they indulge.

Informative article, thanks. I've switched over to bartering recently for most of anything I can get without having to shell out cash. There are a couple sites out thereto use, to connect with people who are looking to barter trade/swap items or even services (carpentry work for auto work, etc). One of the sites I use is Baarter - http://baarter.com
They also have a ' Free Stuff ' section.

This is for "truthspeaker of CA": I'm going to try to say this as respectfully as I can manage... None of your comment makes any sense, it's like you didn't even read the article. "So fat, older women are also cognitively impaired?" It doesn't say that; this article is about how weight and body shapes may alter one's mental performance. It's comparing women to other women within the same age bracket, 65-79. Men weren't considered for this study. Neither were women outside of the age bracket. Let me also point out that the article states that most women in the study scored within the normal range.
You falsely call this article sexist, then proceed to make racist comments. All of Africa is not ruled by tribes, even though you've seen pictures in a 1970s National Geographic. Then you make the comment that the writer must be young because you think she doesn't know what she's talking about. So you're calling young people stupid? And just so you know, I looked her up and she's been writing/editing at Science News for 25 years, is currently a senior editor, and graduated from Northwestern in 1975. Since you seem to be a poor interpreter of information, this means she's a) not particularly young, b) quite accomplished and qualified to write this article, and c) most likely not a male chauvinist.
And congratulations on your scientific discovery. Male American doctors told you women put on weight with age? What a shocker! Next you're going to tell us puberty and menopause exist!

8700 people is a pretty good sample. It also makes some amount of sense to me. Many of the jobless people aren't starving, but obese. You live in GA. So do I. We're a pretty fat state...and our test scores are pretty low, so I don't find this study to be all that odd. If the is the most unfounded ridiculous thing you've heard of, you've got a lot of lessons to learn on the internet and in life. Look around sometime....

Is the logic fallacy you are using steve. It's poor thinking and fallacious.
8700 people is a pretty good sample.
I've always looked at weight as a simple math equation of calories. Eat more than your body burns and you will gain weight.
Then again, I'm an athlete and compete in sports where fat detracts from performance.
