Even a Newborn Canyon Is Big in Texas

Randall,

I have heard that there were large glacial dams that broke to flood the grand canyon floor and carve it out of the ground. The top of the canyon walls at about mid-way are higher than the head waters of the river so how the river could erode that which is higher than itself is what we could call highly unlikely ;).

What's wrong with using feet instead of meters? I assume this article was for the general public's interest. If so it should be written so we can all relate to these volumes and distances. Thank you.

Geepers, this had to be quite a geological event! I'm impressed by the results of a large flow of water at a fast pace to move so much material in such a short period of time. I did notice too, that certain conditions were present in order for this to take place the way it did.

How big are those places seen on Mars? Are they like about the size of the Grand Canyon or bigger? Oh, and speaking of the Grand Canyon---has a similar study ever been conducted about the conditions being right for a quick king-sized gully-washer that could have very well carved out this masterpiece of geology? That said, I realize there's been a lot of debate about whether the Grand Canyon was create as a result of fast errosion per Noah's flood...OR was this huge gorge washed out over a period of hundreds or thousands of years?

I'm not looking for a biblical yes or no here. I just want to know the scientific facts. What is the general conscensous here? Was the Grand Canyon---or any other big gorge as far as that goes--- created by a large drainage run-off from a huge flood in less than 6 months? OR was this done over thousands of years?

Tigerstar, thank you for your amazingly insightful scientific thoughts on this matter. Deep thinking is in high demand throughout the scientific community.

The idiot Creationist Science fanatics are going to jump all over this, seeing it as proof that thier book of fairy tales actually has some scientific basis.
