This is a powerful concept!
These researchers argue that quitting smoking is the first thing to do. Current smokers should not rely on the long term benefits of vitamins only. They suggest quitting smoking first.

Rock is correct, consult your MD before your start a 'dose myself' routine. You cannot overdose on water soluble vitamins (excess is excreted), but you can on fat soluble ones. Vitamins are classified as either fat soluble (vitamins A, D, E and K) or water soluble (vitamins B and C).
The fat soluble vitamins are soluble in lipids (fats). These vitamins are usually absorbed ... and act a bit differently than water soluble ones. These fat soluble vitamins, especially vitamins A and E, are then stored in body tissues. Once stored in tissues and if too high dosage continues, they accumulate over time and can cause a potentially dangerous condition called hypervitaminosis, and hyper many supplements can cause problems.
A well balanced diet, containing plenty of a diversity of fruits and veggies and proteins, no cigarettes, and very little alcohol, exercise and a 'normal' weight = good health generally. [this is what the nutrition and diet books charge you $49.99 to read with padding pages and pictures thrown in.]
As we age cells don't work as well, we will all die of something, but later is better than sooner.

Alcohol diseases: (I know this is slightly off topic.) The only known cure is to stop drinking. This may help arrest some of the the damage that alcohol has done on the alcoholic's body. Appropriate nutritional supplements (which you can learn about by typing "nutrition for alcoholics" and the like into a good search engine) might help protect the body from alcohol or help with temporary alcohol-related illnesses such as hangovers. Always check out a few search engines when you want answers to your questions, such as "And what is good for ALCOHOL DISEASES ??????????????"
I am an alcoholic who hasn't had a drink in 21 years. As you've probably heard, 12-Step programs like AA have a very high success rate in helping people stop drinking. I attended AA meetings for the first 3 years of my sobriety and then stopped going and have been doing great ever since. In other words, it's your decision to go or not go to AA.

Excessive B6 has been found to cause Neuropathy.
Excessive Methionine can lead to high serum levels of homocysteine possibly causing Stroke.
Consult your Physician before beginning any dietary supplement routine.

And what is good for ALCOHOL DISEASES ??????????????
dasof KS7:39PM June 16, 2010
To good to be true! The cigarettes made in the USA are many times more toxic then those made in western Europe (i'm not saying the EU cig. are good or better!!!)
Food processing in the US is out of control, just take a close look at ur next door grocery store and see how much SH@#!T is in there everything is preserved, caned or frozen.
On the other hand we have the Pharmaceutical companies advertising every where especially on TV,making ppl believe they have an answer (medication) for every disease.
A cup of 8 fl.OZ. soda has in average 39 gram of sugar,(1 OZ of sugar is 28 gram (gr) 1000 gram is one Kilogram (kg),1 kg is more than 2 LB ...do the math)!
If we get an 8 oz cup of coffee or milk (for kids) with 39 grams of sugar in it,same amount as a soda,99% of the people wouldn't / couldn't drink it.
It's very hard to believe anyone today be it scientist or whoever...end of the day they are humans too and unlike Animals, humans like money $$$,in other words everyone is an stock market share holder!
Nice advertisement,American Medical Association research,EU researchers, Science News and yes my Dr. who push to sell only certain medications!

For people who are at risk or have lung cancer there is an organization that provides patient support services (phone buddy, community chat room, literature, award winning website, clinical trial matching service), public education, and advocacy for public policy change. The website is www.lungcanceralliance.org.
